Discover three basilicas linked to the life of Saint Francis with a private guide, who will make you discover the most important churches in Assisi: St. Francis Basilica, St. Clare Basilica, and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels with the Porziuncola Chapel.
You will start the tour from the Basilica of St. Clare. This church is built of Assisi's typical pink stone extracted from the quarry of the Subasio mountain and contains precious frescos dating back to the 12th-14th century. Here you can admire the Cross of San Damiano, the crucifix through which the Lord asked St. Francis to rebuild the Church.
After St. Claire, you'll reach the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels with a private transfer. Built on a grandiose scale, the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli is the 7th-largest Christian church. Its magnificence may be at odds with the simplicity preached by St. Francis himself but the flocks of pilgrims who came to visit the primitive Porziuncola Chapel and the Cappella del Transito called for a building that was able to accommodate the faithful.
You will then return to the historic center and visit the magnificent St. Francis Basilica. It is the mother church of the Order of Friars Minor in Assisi, the town where Saint Francis was born and died. The Basilica is world-famous for its 13th-14th century frescoes made by the best Italian painters at that time.
