What to expect

George Bernard Shaw once said that the one who seeks paradise on Earth must see Dubrovnik.

Explore Dubrovnik with a local guide to discover its streets, stone houses, little gardens and boats in the harbor, from where you can see the amazing crystal sea and nearby islands. Museums, squares, churches, monasteries and famous UNESCO protected city walls are just beckoning to be photographed. Surrounded by city walls, Dubrovnik streets are guardians of renaissance and baroque examples of architecture. The creativity of Dubrovnik’s artists, writers and scientists is woven into the soul of the city.

Enjoy a guided tour of the splendour of Dubrovnik's UNESCO-protected Old City. As its name suggests, this popular tour focuses on the must-see parts of the Old Town, while your professional guide provides fascinating and entertaining details, background and anecdotes to help enhance your experience.

You will meet your knowledgable local guide just outside Pile Gate and from there, walk to Dubrovnik through the limestone-paved streets of the city’s Stari Grad (Old Town) as your guide uncovers the real story behind the city’s churches, monasteries and palaces.

Stradun is the main street of Dubrovnik. The limestone-paved pedestrian street runs some 300 metres through the Old Town, the historic part of the city surrounded by the Walls of Dubrovnik. There you will see the Franciscan Monastery, a perfect example of Dubrovnik's unique architecture. Built in the Romanesque-Gothic style, the Monastery is a true masterpiece, housing one of the oldest pharmacies in Europe and its own museum, which displays priceless objects from Dubrovnik's historic and cultural past.

The route takes you around the Old Town via Onofrio's Fountain and up Prijeko Street to the Old Port - the key to Dubrovnik's trading and maritime success. Along the way you will pay a visit to St. Saviour's, the grandiose Franciscan and Dominican church, and see wine-producing vines believed to be more than 100 years old.

You will also get to know with Jewish neighborhood - Žudioska Street where the Jewish community was once situated. Here you can visit the famous Synagogue established in the 15th century, re-built in 1652 and still in use today.

In Sponza Palace you will see a memorial room dedicated to the killed Dubrovnik defenders in Homeland War and get to know the contemporary history of Dubrovnik. From the spectacular setting of the Old Town, our knowledgeable guide will help to clarify exactly what happened. Learn about the historical background to the war.

The tour then moves on to the Old City's Romanesque-Baroque Cathedral, providing you with a chance to understand this landmark's history as it lived through earthquakes and reconstruction under the watchful eye of various architects, to becoming the home for many important paintings and other works of art.

Let your guide regale you with stories from the city’s long and rich history, once an autonomous republic buttressing both the Ottoman and the Venetian Empires. Your tour finishes near the port.

All in all, the classic tour is your perfect snapshot of the main attractions of the Old Town, giving a real taste of Dubrovnik's delights.

Konavle Valley Wine-tasting Tour with Scenic Train

Konavle valley's distinctive culture and cuisine are revealed in all their glory during this half-day tour. You'll sample locally grown wines at family-run vineyards, ride a train from village to village and tuck into some traditional food, all in the scenic surroundings of the Konavle valley. Antun, one of our local guides, says, ‘Dubrovačka Malvasija is the renowned grape variety unique to this region. Local winemakers managed to save the species, even though there were only three healthy vines remaining in the post-war period.'Located near the border with Montenegro, between mountains and the Adriatic Sea, the valley is a sun-drenched countryside escape from Dubrovnik. You'll arrive in the village of Zastolje to visit the historic Brajković winery, then it's all aboard to ride to Ljuta by train. Here, you'll see how the 500-year-old Đivanović water mill had dual purposes – since medieval times it was used to produce flour and process wool into fabric. After this visit, we'll continue to a different vineyard and wine cellar for more tasting. You'll sample some local culture when you try a typical ploughman's lunch, just as the farmers would eat during a hard day in the fields. The final stop is a third winery. Antun says, ‘You'll relish a cold glass of Konavle rosé alongside a slice of typical pandišpanj sponge cake at this vineyard. Pandišpanj is traditionally made for special occasions, like this tour, when we welcome our guests to our beautiful Konavle valley.'

Ivana, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Affectionately known as Boka by locals, they're proud the bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its natural, cultural and historical importance. There's a strong artisan tradition in the area, and the towns are recognised for their fine architecture.'After a drive along the Dalmatian coast, you'll board your boat and set sail towards the narrow strait of Verige, where the whole bay opens up, and you'll see why the Bay of Kotor is Montenegro's most famous destination. After passing by Perast, Stoliv and Prčanj, the first stop is the fairytale islet of Our Lady of the Rocks, somewhere Ivana loves. ‘Of all museums in the region, the one on the islet is my favourite to guide,' she says. ‘The church is like an art gallery, and the museum contains gems such as the Jacinta Kunić embroidery.'Back on board, we'll tuck into a tasty lunch on board en route to Kotor town. Here, you'll have free time to explore this fortified medieval pearl packed with Venetian palaces.
